Why Pinehurst as a cluster
Official golf pages describe eleven 18-hole courses plus Thistle Dhu and The Cradle. Donald Ross history sits next to newer layouts (including No. 10 and No. 11). The cluster advantage is the same as Bandon: one base, many Played marks.
Unlike a pure municipal week, most championship Pinehurst rounds prioritize members and overnight resort guests. Plan the stay first.
Access reality (official tee-time rules)
From pinehurst.com/golf/ (re-verify before you book):
- To play No. 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, or 11, you must be a member or resort guest.
- If you are not a member or resort guest, walk-on play is available April to October on No. 1, 3, and 5.
- The Cradle offers year-round walk-on play.
- Walk-on tee times: online portal beginning one day before play; non-cancellable.
- Best rates and availability: book a stay through a golf package. Tee times prioritized for members and overnight resort guests.
Do not promise walk-up No. 2. That path is not in the official guest rules above.

3-day vs 5-day shapes
3-day (No. 2 focused)
- Book a package that meets the minimum stay to play No. 2 (official package footnotes: typically 2 nights; most weekends 3 nights mid-March through mid-November).
- One round on No. 2
- Supporting rounds on other numbered courses in the package
- Optional Cradle
5-day (passport week)
- No. 2 once
- Mix No. 4 / No. 10 / classics
- One lighter Cradle or walk-on classic if legs need it
- Build recovery. Path-only carts on No. 2 and No. 4 still mean a lot of walking.

- Most weekends require 3-night minimums mid-March through mid-November

Caddies, carts, clubs (official golf page)

- Caddie: $85 per bag; Forecaddie: $45 per player; Single bag: $100 (day-of only). Recommended gratuities listed on site.
- Carts path-only on No. 2 and No. 4. No. 10 walking only. Other courses allow fairway riding per site.
- Push carts first-come. Club rentals listed at $80 per day on the golf page.
Fit for Wishlist vs Played
Wishlist this trip if:
- You want No. 2 on the Played list and will book a qualifying resort package
- You will add supporting numbered courses the same week
- You accept walk-on limits if you try to play without staying
