Bandon weekend golf trip

Bandon is the rare public-access corridor where one resort base stacks multiple walking links stamps. You do not need a private membership. You do need lodging lead time, honest legs for walking-only golf, and a plan for wind and recovery.

This guide is free planning value. Day shapes, course tradeoffs, where to stay, how resort vs day-guest booking actually works, and what to do when the weather turns. Private clubs and folklore access tips are out. We only cover the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort publicly bookable corridor.

Optional after you play: mark Played and Wishlist in GolfGuides so the week sticks. The guide works either way.

Start here

Plan the stay on or next to the resort if stacking championship rounds is the point of the trip. Lock lodging and golf through official resort channels first. Fill lighter days with Bandon Preserve or Shorty's when legs need it.

If you cannot get a lodging package, study day-guest rules carefully (premium windows, after-10 a.m. starts, limited sheet). Do not assume walk-up championship times. Re-verify on bandondunesgolf.com the week you plan.

Day shapes that work

Pick a length first. Then lock the hard tee times and fill recovery around them.

3-day resort-heavy (aggressive)

  • Day 1Arrive. One championship 18 (or Preserve / Shorty's if travel day is long). Soft landing.
  • Day 2Two rounds if fit (championship + shorter afternoon), or one championship + rest.
  • Day 3One championship 18. Depart evening or next morning.

Do not stack two hard championship walks on the travel day unless you have no choice. Oregon coast wind and jet lag stack.

4-day with a weather / legs buffer

  • Day 1Arrive + one championship or Preserve
  • Day 2Championship 18 (headline stamp for the trip)
  • Day 3Buffer (Preserve, Shorty's, rest, or swap if day 2 blew out)
  • Day 4Championship 18, then depart

5-day balanced (better for walking)

  • Day 1Arrive + lighter round (Preserve or Shorty's) or one championship
  • Day 2Championship 18 (e.g. Pacific Dunes or Bandon Dunes)
  • Day 3Championship 18 (different texture, e.g. Old Macdonald or Bandon Trails)
  • Day 4Buffer / Preserve / rest, or Sheep Ranch if wind window is good
  • Day 5Final championship or Shorty's morning, then depart

Leave one empty afternoon. Wind moves tee sheets and walking fatigue more here than on cart-friendly inland trips. Exact course order is preference. The cluster rule matters more: stay on the corridor and rotate stamps.

Course picks with honest tradeoffs

Championship 18s on the official resort corridor (all walking only per official fee page; re-verify). Why pick it, what you give up, and where to re-verify fees.

Bandon Dunes

Why pick it
The original flagship stamp. Classic links feel on the Southern Oregon Coast.
Tradeoff
Demand is high; lodging + golf packages own the practical path. Walking only.

Fee note (official 2026 resort-guest table, shared across the five championship 18s): Jan $130; Feb $175; Mar $225; Apr $260; May $340; Jun to Sep $375; Oct $340; Nov $225; Dec $130. Same-day replay lower on the same table. Re-verify on bandondunesgolf.com/golf/bandon-dunes-green-fees/ before you book.

Pacific Dunes

Why pick it
Championship cliff / dune drama many players rank at the top of the week.
Tradeoff
Wind can be fierce. Same walking-only reality. Do not schedule as the only recovery day after a double.

Fee note: Same championship resort-guest monthly table as above. Day-guest and premium day-guest rates differ (see Booking). Confirm live.

Bandon Trails

Why pick it
Varied inland-to-dune texture; different personality from the cliff courses. Useful for mixing the week.
Tradeoff
Less pure ocean postcard than Pacific Dunes or Sheep Ranch. Still a full walking championship.

Fee note: Same championship resort-guest table. Confirm live.

Old Macdonald

Why pick it
Wide, strategic, Macdonald-inspired fun; a different stamp without leaving the property.
Tradeoff
Not the cliff-edge postcard some fly for. Still walking only and still peak demand in season.

Fee note: Same championship resort-guest table. Confirm live.

Sheep Ranch

Why pick it
Clifftop coastline, bunkerless links character, big views.
Tradeoff
Often the windiest site on the property. Build it on a day with a sane forecast, not as blind day-1 jet-lag golf.

Fee note: Same championship resort-guest table. Confirm live.

Bandon Preserve

Why pick it
Shorter par-3 walk (official site: 13-hole par-3) for recovery, weather buffer, or arrival day. Separate all-guests fee table. Net profits support the Bandon Dunes Charitable Foundation per official page.
Tradeoff
Not a championship 18 stamp. Use it to save the week, not as the headline.

Fee note (official 2026 Preserve / Shorty's all-guests table): Jan $60; Feb $70; Mar $90; Apr $100; May $115; Jun to Sep $125; Oct $115; Nov $90; Dec $60. Re-verify on the same green-fees page.

Shorty's

Why pick it
Short-course fun on the fee sheet (official site: 19-hole par-3); good second loop or legs-saver. Same separate all-guests table as Preserve.
Tradeoff
Not a championship 18. Replay rates on the championship table do not apply to Preserve or Shorty's (official note).

Fee note: Confirm live on the official Preserve / Shorty's table above.

Stay areas

Pick the base for the tee times you already hold, not the other way around.

On-property Bandon Dunes Golf Resort lodging

Best when stacking multiple championship rounds. Golf books with the stay through official reservations / trip planner. Highest simplicity; lodging demand is real and calendars / drawing processes can apply for future seasons (confirm live on bandondunesgolf.com lodging pages). On-property shuttle runs 24 hours for resort guests (FAQ).

Near-resort town / Bandon area lodging

Possible when day-guest golf is the only open path. Budget drive time, day-guest premium rules, and limited advance windows. Confirm parking and check-in logistics. Do not invent hotel rates.

Further afield (Coos Bay / other coast towns)

Only if lodging on or near property is sold out and you accept commute risk on early walking tee times. Usually a last resort for a stamp-stack week. Airport drive times (official FAQ, approximate): OTH about 35 minutes; EUG about 2.5 hours; MFR about 3 hours; PDX about 4.5 hours.

Lodging package totals vary by date. Confirm on bandondunesgolf.com and your hotel. We do not invent stay totals.

Booking notes

Re-verify before you travel.

Resort guests

Book lodging + golf through official resort channels (trip planner / 855-220-6710). Resort guests get the practical path onto championship sheets. Treat availability calendars and any drawing / lottery process as live (confirm on official lodging reservations and drawings pages for the season you want). Official site notes lodging reservations through 2027 at time of this verify; later seasons may use drawings.

Day guests

Day guests may book golf-only tee times for April through mid-November more than 21 days in advance at a premium rate. Tee times must be after 10:00 a.m. and cannot exceed one year in advance. Inquire with reservations.

Day-guest fee dollars (2026 championship table; re-verify)

Day Guest: Jan $180; Feb $225; Mar $275; Apr $310; May $390; Jun to Sep $425; Oct $390; Nov $275; Dec $180. Premium Day Guest (Apr through Nov windows on the table): Apr $360; May $440; Jun to Sep $475; Oct $440; Nov $325. Oregon Resident rate matches resort-guest dollars and is available only for tee times made within 21 days (official footnote).

Walking, caddie, carts

All courses walking only. Caddies encouraged; official FAQ lists caddie fee $125 per bag per round plus gratuity (paid to the caddie). Complimentary pull / push carts available. Riding carts are disability-documented only ($30 cart fee + required caddie; arrange ahead per FAQ). Soft spikes only.

Cancellation and aerification

2026 lodging + golf: cancel or reduce at least 60 days before arrival. Golf-only: at least 90 days. After those deadlines, full deposit forfeiture per FAQ. Official FAQ posts a yearly aerification calendar; courses played within 5 days of aerification get 25% off greens fee (confirm live).

Order of operations: decide trip length and how many walking championships you can honestly finish; lock lodging / package path (or accept day-guest constraints); place championship stamps, then fill Preserve / Shorty's / rest as buffers; re-verify fees and aerification calendar on the official FAQ / fee pages before you travel.

Weather and backup days

Expect coastal wind, rain bands, and cool mornings even in shoulder season. Firm turf and exposed cliffs punish soft spikes and tired legs.

If a championship morning looks unplayable the night before

Call the resort early. Do not assume a free swap onto another championship 18. Preserve or Shorty's may be the honest save. Rain-check policy (official FAQ): contact the golf shop before you tee off for a voucher path; once you tee off you have committed.

If legs are shot after a double

Take the buffer day you built into a 4- or 5-day shape. Do not force Sheep Ranch into a gale on pride.

If fog / rain sits on the cliffs

Inland texture at Bandon Trails can feel different from Pacific Dunes or Sheep Ranch on the same calendar day. Still walking only.

Pack layers, rain shell, and a plan for wet grips. Coastal mornings run colder than inland Oregon forecasts suggest.

Logistics checklist

  • Confirm every tee time 48 hours out
  • Screenshot booking confirmations
  • Confirm walking-only reality (caddie / push cart options on official channels; medical cart path is documented disability only per resort FAQ)
  • Layers, rain shell, extra glove, spare socks
  • Soft spikes clean for long walks
  • Foam roller or stretch plan if stacking 18s
  • Optional: create a GolfGuides account before the trip so Played marks are one tap after each round
